Retinal screening
Not everyone with diabetes will get eye problems. Having a digital photograph taken
and checked can help diagnose problems before your vision is affected. Treatment can then prevent partial or complete loss of vision. If vision is already affected, treatment can stop things getting worse.
Everyone in Hammersmith & Fulham who has diabetes is being offered a free yearly digital photograph of the back of the eye(the
retina) as part of a screening check-up. This is a free, high quality, NHS service.
Screening is by appointment only. Diabetics registered with a local GP are invited for screening automatically. If you have not received an invitation in over 12 months please contact your GP.
At our practice we regularly pass the names and addresses of all our diabetic patients to the Milson Road
retinal screening clinic. This means that they will invite you to an annual check-up at the clinic. We would strongly urge all our diabetic patients to attend this clinic as loss of eye sight would seriously impact your life.
